The Sacred Heart University bowling team finished fourth, out of 11 teams, at the Caldwell Cougar Classic. The Pioneers went 5-5 at the event and are now 8-9 on the season. SHU earned the fourth-seed entering best of seven play on Sunday, before falling to the top-seed UMES and FDU.
Colby Jones led the team in most of the statistical categories including high average with 18.63, 37% strikes, 83% filled frames and 100% 8 count spares plus she was one of four on the team who made 90% single pins. Nicole Cona, Sklyer Mulligan-Brown and Rachel Bamford also surpassed 90 percent single pins during the competition. Tori Boughton was the Pioneers top finisher, placing eighth individually.
The Pioneers return to action on November 9-10 for the first NEC Meet of the season.
DAY THREE
Round 13: FDU 4, SHU 1
- FDU jumped out to ta 3-0 lead, including a one-pin win in the third
- The Pioneers waon the fourth, 195-169, and then FDU captured the match with a 162-159 victory in the fifth
Round 12: UMES 4, SHU 3
- The Pioneers won the first match, 210-191, before falling in match two and three
- SHU rallied with back-to-back wins, 230-170 and 192-127, to pull in front 3-2
- UMES evened the match with a 215-168 win in match six, and earned a 173-165 win the seventh, to take the victory
Round 11: Molloy 889, SHU 835
- The loss gave SHU the fourth-seed heading into the best-of-seven format
- Colby Jones scored 182 to lead the Pioneers in the match
DAY TWO
Round 10: SHU 891, LIU 846
- The Pioneers closed the second day with a win over LIU
- Jones bowled a 183 and Skyler Mulligan-Brown recorded a 181 in the win
Round 9: UMES 877, SHU 857
Round 8: SHU 942, Adelphi 889
- Jones bowled 216, the top score in the match, as the Pioneers bested Adelphi
- Rebecca Armand shot 189
Round 7: BYE
- Mulligan-Brown scored 221 in the bye round
Round 6: SHU 920, Bloomfield 859
- Boughton led the way with a 204 effort
- Armand (186) and Bamford (181) both surpassed 180, as all five Pioneers bowled over 170 in the win
