SMITHFIELD, R.I. — After an impressive season on the lanes, the Sacred Heart University women's bowling team topped it with an even better showing in the classroom, as the Pios own the best team GPA out of all the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) All-Academic Scholar Teams.
SHU, who finished the season ranked No. 12 in the final NTCA coaches poll, tallied a combined grade-point average of 3.82 to lead all NTCA programs. The Pioneers have been named an NTCA All-Academic Scholar Team for the past four seasons, ranking fourth in the country last year. To be eligible for this award, a program must have a cumulative team GPA of 3.2 or higher for the academic school year and be a current member of the NTCA.
In addition to the recognition as a team, 17 Pioneers were honored as NTCA All-Academic Scholar-Athletes, the most by any team.
Paige Donovan,
Rachel Glowniak and
Megan Prettyman led the way with perfect 4.0 GPAs. Donovan and Glowniak are both pursuing a master's in Speech Language Pathology and Education, respectively, while Prettyman is a junior Biology major.
