SHU Leads the Conference After First NEC Meet

ALTOONA, PA (NOVEMBER 15, 2015)—The Sacred Heart bowling team sits in first place at the end of two days of competition this past weekend at the first of two Northeast Conference meets. The Pioneers went 4-1 in team matches on Saturday and 3-2 in baker matches Sunday, finishing the weekend 7-3. 

Next up, the Pioneers head to Millsboro, Del. for the UMES Hawk Classic on November 20-22.

 

Day One (Team Matches)

  • Pioneers beat conference powerhouse Fairleigh Dickinson by 115 pinfall with Corrine Maher coming off the bench to lead the Pioneers with a 231 game.  
 

Match 1:

  • SFU 969- SHU 897
  • Two Pioneers shot over 200: Lauren Hoffman 222, Amanda Tyrell 204
 

Match 2:

 

Match 3:

  • SHU 874- CU 806
  • Tyrell led the Pioneers with a 191 game, Maher followed right behind with a 190 game.
 

Match 4:

  • SHU 1032- FDU 917
  • Three Pioneers shot over 200 leading SHU to the win over the reigning NEC Champions. Maher 231, Tyrell 207, Smith 201.
 

Match 5:

  • SHU 1004- LIU 927
  • Two Pioneers shot over 200: Hoffman 245, Rhodes 204.
 

Day Two (Baker Matches Best-of-five)

  • The Pioneers faced Caldwell in their first match and took the first game 197-184. They took the second game as well 177-168, but fell short in the third 186-179 and fourth 226-223. They won the fifth game 202-167, allowing them to win the match with a total pinfall of 978.
  • In their second match, the Pioneers took on LIU Brooklyn winning the first four games: 192-173, 183-141, 209-192, and 222-156, but lost the fifth 186- 177.  SHU still won the match 983-848.
  • SHU face St. Francis Brooklyn in Sunday's third match. The Pioneers pulled off a win in the first game 203-190, but SFBK rebounded taking the second game 213-183, and third 178-172. Sacred Heart pulled out a win in game four 193-178, but couldn't pull off a win in the fifth game falling short to SFBU 188-170, causing a 947-921 loss for this match.
  • The Pioneers lost the first three games of the fourth match to Saint Francis U: 188-186, 193-180, and 184-166, but they finished the match winning the last two games with high scores of 233-225, and 206-175. Their high scoring games pushed their total pinfall to a 971-965 match win over SFU
  • In their final match they faced FDU winning the first game 186-165. The Knights rebounded taking games two and three: 208-176, and 194-173. SHU rallied taking the last two games 180-171, and 202-197, but fell short in pinfall by 18. Losing the match to FDU 935-917.
 

Individual Numbers:

  • Lauren Hoffman led the Pioneers for the weekend averaging 19.84 points per frame
  • Rhodes filled 92% of her frames, while Smith had a 90% average for the weekend with Hoffman and Tyrell following behind: 82% and 80%.
