Men’s Golf in Fourth After Two Rounds at Red Bandanna Invitational

Mooney leads the Pios in T11th

VERONA, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University men's golf team sits in fourth after the first two rounds of the Red Bandanna Invitational, hosted by BC at the Turning Stone Resort in Verona, N.Y. on Sunday, Aug. 31.

The Pioneers own a team score of 612 (+36) after rounds of 307 and 305. SHU trails third-place LaSalle (+31) by five strokes and second-place South Dakota (+27) by nine strokes. Hosting Boston College leads the event at 600 (+24). The Pios hold the advantage over Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foes Merrimack (+76) and Manhattan (+82) in 10th and 11th place, respectively. 

Leading the way for SHU is first year Ronan Mooney in a tie for 11th. Mooney owns a combined score of 151 (+7). The Holden, Mass., native led after the first round with a one-over 73 before carding a six-over 78 in round two. Mooney opened the day with three birdies in his first seven holes, finishing with seven over 36 holes. 

Mike Rothberg sits right behind Mooney in a tie for 15th. The senior kicked off his year with rounds of 76 and 77 for a combined score of 153 (+9). Rothberg tallied a trio of birdies today, one in the first round and two in the second. 

SHU's Yu Chan Ji Lim, Sho Suzuki and Jon Bushka all sit inside the top 35. Lim tallied a 36-hole score of 156 (+12) with rounds of 79 and 77 to tie for 23rd. Suzuki and Bushka both finished the day in T33rd with scores of 159 (+15). 

Pablo Lacayo concluded the Pios' competitors in a tie for 53rd. Lacayo tallied one of the best second rounds with a one-over 73, as he heads to round three with a score of 167 (+23). 

The Pioneers conclude the Red Bandanna Invitational tomorrow morning.
