LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Sacred Heart University men's golf team looked like it was going to pull off a thrilling round-three comeback at the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship, hosted at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., but SHU finished two strokes short at the competitive event.

The Pioneers finished with a team score of 864 (E) after a one-over 289 today. Fairfield claimed the team title at two-under 862 after going one-under this afternoon. Iona (+3) went from first to third after a rough round three, while Manhattan (+15) and Mount St. Mary's (+18) rounded out the top five.

Ethan Phillips led the way for SHU in third place, finishing with a combined score of 212 (-4). The graduate transfer carded 71, 69, and 72 rounds on his way to making the All-Championship Team. He carded 14 birdies through the 54 holes to go along with an eagle on 15 today.   Mike Rothberg joined Phillips on the All-Championship Team by placing in a tie for sixth after an outstanding round three today. Rothberg's three-under 69 today, which was the second-best round of the day, propelled the junior 10 spots up the leaderboard, as he finished at 215 (-1).

Eoin Freeman and Pablo Lacayo were next on the leaderboard in T14th and T17th, respectively. Freeman also had a stellar round three to propel up the leaderboard, carding an even-par 72 to climb eight spots with a final score of 219 (+3). Lacayo finagled with a four-over score of 220 following rounds of 70, 74 and 76.

Rounding out the Pioneers' lineup was Yu Chan Ji Lim in a tie for 39th. In his first MAAC Championship, Lim carded a score of 229 (+13).
