MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Sacred Heart University women's bowling team finished tied for the best record at 6-1 at the third and final regular-season Northeast Conference (NEC) meet, hosted on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 18-19, at Yankee Lanes in Manchester, N.H.
The No. 19-ranked Pioneers went 6-1 over seven Baker matches, the lone loss coming to No. 21 FDU. SHU's weekend was highlighted by a thrilling 1,075-1,026 win over No. 9 Duquesne. Both teams' scores were their highest of the meet.
Sacred Heart also defeated ranked opponents in No. 18 Merrimack (874-785) and No. 25 Niagara (920-850).
The Pioneers finished the meet tied with Duquesne and FDU for the best record.
With this being the last NEC meet, the final standings are set. SHU held the lead in the league with a combined record of 14-4, holding a tie breaker over Duquesne heading into Sunday's competition. Unfortunately for the Pioneers, their loss against FDU dropped them out of the top spot and put them in the two seed. The Pioneers end conference play with a 16-5 record and will play the No. 3-seed FDU in the opening round of the NEC Tournament on Friday, March 22.
Sacred Heart will have a short break from competition before participating in the ITC & ITC Sectionals on Friday-Sunday, March 8-10.
