LOCKPORT, Ill. – The Sacred Heart University women's bowling claimed fifth place at the challenging Flyer Classic, hosted by Lewis University on Friday-Sunday, Feb. 9-11, in Lockport, Ill.
The No. 19-ranked Pioneers finished the event with a 7-6 record, going 4-1 in their five traditional matches on Saturday. On Sunday, SHU rolled to a 4-1 win over No. 12 Tulane in the fifth-place match, the one loss coming by just one pin.
Sacred Heart was at its best on Saturday, claiming four wins on the day. SHU defeated Carthage (996-815), Dominican (915-598), Augustana (931-824) and No. 16 Newman (1,046-977).
Megan Prettyman led the way in the traditional matches with a 208.40 average over the five contests. Prettyman held the fifth-best average among all bowlers in the traditional matches.
Hannah Manetta was next on the team with a 196.60 average.
SHU started the week with wins over hosting Lewis (984-925) and Aurora (935-931) in Baker format.
The Pioneers hit the lanes again on Saturday, Feb. 17, for the third Northeast Conference (NEC) meet of the season in Manchester, N.H.
