Bowling Tallies Undefeated Record at Bowl for the Cure

The Pioneers finished 9-0 on the weekend, Prettyman named tournament MVP

EAST HAVEN, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's bowling team capped off a perfect weekend on Sunday, winning both the traditional and baker tournaments at its hosted Bowl for the Cure event at the AMF Circle Lanes in East Haven, Conn.

SHU finished the event with a perfect 9-0 record, 4-0 in the traditional tournament and 5-0 in the baker tournament. 

On Saturday in the traditional format, SHU rolled to a quartet of wins, averaging 1,018 in victories over Byrant, Saint Anselm, LIU and No. 14 Merrimack. The Pios scored a day-high 1,030 in the win over the Warriors, taking the match 1,030-952. 

On Sunday, the Pioneers earned baker wins over Merrimack, Wagner, Saint Anselm, LIU and Bryant. SHU averaged a score of 991.6 over the five contests, while its opponents averaged 859.4. 

Sacred Heart's closest match of the weekend was a 996-953 win over Bryant in its final bout. The Bulldogs owned a 65-pin lead, 258-193, in the first two games before SHU turned things around with a 60% strike rate in games three and four to help seal its undefeated record on the weekend. 

Junior Megan Prettyman was named tournament MVP after leading the tournament field with an average of 21.66 per frame, 90% filled frames and 58% strike rate. 

The trio of Molly Chiesa, Cira Arcangel and Hope Bunk also had stellar weekends. Chiesa finished second on the team with a 20.83 per frame average, while Arcangel's average was 20.79 and Bunk's was 20.32.

The Pioneers are back at the lanes on Friday, Nov. 15, for the opening day of the Colonial Lanes Classic, hosted by Tulane in Harahan, La.
