ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The Sacred Heart University women's bowling team went 1-1 to open the first round of the NCAA tournament at the Rochester regional on Friday. The Pioneers fell 2-0 to Arkansas State in the first match and then took down Medaille College 2-0 in an elimination match. Sacred Heart will move on to play in a semifinal round tomorrow at 9:00 AM.
In the opening match against Arkansas State, SHU dropped the traditional format, 1,048-993. First-year
Megan Prettyman and sophomore
Nancy Kohut both scored over 200 as Prettyman had 234 and Kohut had 224. The Pioneers fell 1,151-1,095 in the quint baker match. With the loss, Sacred Heart moved on to an elimination match against Medaille.
In the opening traditional format against Medaille, Sacred Heart won 941-885. The Pioneers again had two bowlers score over 200. Kohut led the way with 212 and sophomore
Molly Chiesa was next with 200. In the quint baker match, SHU secured a 1,016-933 victory to claim a spot in the regional semifinal.
The Pioneers will take on North Carolina A&T at 9:00 AM on Saturday, April 8.
