HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J.— The Sacred Heart University women's bowling team is championship bound after taking down Duquesne, 2-0 on Saturday morning at the Northeast Conference Championships.
The fourth-seeded Pioneers secured a spot in the winner's bracket on Friday after defeating the top seed, Fairleigh Dickinson, in the first round. Sacred Heart will face FDU for the championship, after the Knights beat Duquesne in the elimination round on Saturday afternoon. The final is set for Sunday, March 26th, at 9:00 AM for the 2023 NEC Championship.
To open the second round of the NEC championships today, the Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the traditional format, defeating Duquesne 988-908. The teams moved on for a five-game baker match where Sacred Heart was able to secure the victory, holding a 984-940 advantage in total pinfalls. A best-of-seven match was not needed, as the Pioneers went 2-0 over the Dukes to secure their spot in the championship final tomorrow.
#4 Pioneers are the defending NEC Champions from 2022, and will be making their eighth consecutive appearance in the championship final.
