NASHVILLE, Tenn.—The Sacred Heart women's bowling team finished 13th overall at the Music City Classic at Vanderbilt over the weekend. The Pioneers, who are ranked #25 in the country, finished the weekend at 10-3 overall and were competing against many teams in the top-25 rankings.
Hannah Manetta was the top Pioneer over the weekend as she had a 197.40 average.
Paige Donovan also had a great performance this weekend for Sacred Heart with a 193.00 average. SHU also had two bowlers participate in their first NCAA competitions,
Rae Valt and
Marissa Mele.
On the first day of the classic, SHU went undefeated in the baker format at 5-0 with wins over #19 Lincoln Memorial University, Aurora University, Belmont Abbey College, Spalding University, and #17 University of Central Missouri.
Following a strong first day of competition, the Pioneers took down another ranked opponent, the #20 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, as SHU went 3-2 in the traditional format. The Pioneers dropped back-to-back matches to #4 Arkansas State University, and the top team in the nation, McKendree University. Sacred Heart wrapped up the day with two wins over Valparaiso University and #6 Youngstown State University, in a big upset victory, 994-894.
On the final day, Sacred Heart went 2-1, opening the day with a 1376-1360 loss to the University of Central Missouri. The Pioneers won the final two rounds, taking down Lewis University, 1336-1249, and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 1242-1174.
Sacred Heart will compete next weekend in the Northeast Conference championship from Friday, March 24-Sunday March 26, in Hamilton Township, NJ.
