MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – The Sacred Heart University women's bowling team posted the second-best record at the second Northeast Conference (NEC) meet of the season this weekend, going 4-3 in seven matches of Baker play at Trindle Bowl in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
The No. 17 Pioneers started the two-day meet on Saturday, going 1-3 with losses to a trio of ranked teams in No. 24 Merrimack, No. 11 Duquesne and No. 15 FDU. Sacred Heart won against Saint Francis University by an 895-843 final score.
SHU bounced back big on Sunday, sweeping LIU, Niagara and Wagner for a perfect 3-0 day. The Pioneers topped 900 pins in all three Sunday matches, which included a tournament-best 954 in their 954-917 win over Wagner in SHU's final match. The Pioneers also tallied a 904-839 victory over LIU before topping Niagara 912-879.
Sacred Heart ended the event with a total pin total of 6,210, which ranked third. The Pios averaged a score of 177.4 per game.
This weekend's NEC meet marked the team's last until after the New Year. The Pioneers return to the lanes on Saturday, Jan. 13, for the Viking Classic in Carmel, N.Y.
