Bowling Goes 6-1 at First NEC Meet of Season

The Pioneers tied Merrimack for the best record at the event

NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The Sacred Heart University women's bowling team went an impressive 6-1 at the first Northeast Conference (NEC) meet of the season on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 11-12. 

On Saturday, the Pioneers went a perfect 3-0 with wins over Wagner, LIU and Niagara. SHU maintained an average score of 183.6 per game over the three victories. 

After dropping a close 942-919 decision to Merrimack to open play Sunday, the Pios bounced back with three big wins. Sacred Heart bested SFU, FDU and Duquesne to finish tied for the best record at the meet. The Pioneers' best game came against FDU, scoring a tournament-best 1,017 to the Knights' 879. 

Leading the Pioneers were first years Karleigh LeMondn and Madilyn Yockel with averages of 191.00 and 188.83, respectively. Both played in a team-high six of seven matches. 

Molly Chiesa, Morgan Brunet and Hannah Manetta also had stellar weekends. Chiesa held a 185.50 average over four matches, while Brunet averaged an 182.20 score over five matches. Manetta participated in six matches and held an 181.50 average. 

The Pioneers will have the rest of the month off, as they will next compete at the second NEC meet of the season on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 2-3, in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
