HAMILTON, N.J. – The Sacred Heart University women's bowling team advanced to the Northeast Conference Championship round for the seventh-straight season on Friday morning. The Pioneers bested number two Mount St. Mary's, 2-1, in the best of three Mega Match series.
The two teams were neck in neck from the very beginning as the Mountaineers edged the Pioneers by just one point, 1,024-1,023, in the traditional leg.
Amanda Shelters and
Hannah Manetta both broke 200 and led the Red & White. Shelters posted a score of 245 while Manetta posted 236.
It didn't take long for SHU to heat up when it forced a best of seven baker match after grabbing a 1,137-1,038-quint baker win.
Paige Donovan and Shelters threw seven-straight strikes to aid in the win.
Sacred Heart swept the Mount, 4-0, in the best of seven baker match to advance to the championship. Of the eight shots that every bowler threw,
Nancy Kohut and Donovan each went 6-8 in strikes. In the final game, Shelters, Donovan, Kohut and Manetta threw consecutive strikes to help SHU to a six-pin win, 246-240.
The Pioneers will face off with number five Long Island tomorrow at 9 a.m.
