Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Trying to find some momentum going into next week's EIVA Tournament, the Sacred Heart University men's volleyball team couldn't get it going Saturday against St. Francis. The Red Flash swept the weekend by downing the Pioneers 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-16).
Sacred Heart fell to 1-19 overall, 0-16 in the conference. The Red Flash improved to 7-18 and 6-12 in the EIVA.
An Ife Loverton kill pulled the Pioneers within 22-21 in the opening set, but SFU was able to come through with a pair of kills and a block to win the set. The Red Flash went on runs midway through the second and third sets to secure the victory.
Sacred Heart hit .227, but could not stop St. Francis as the visitors hit .358. SFU also had the 28-17 advantage in digs.
Five different Pioneers had four or more kills, led by seniors Nicholas Palluzzi and Shawn Tischler – who were recognized before the match along with classmates Zak Kakos and Timothy McIntosh – had five each.
SHU will travel to George Mason for the first round of the EIVA Tournament. The match date and time have yet to be determined.
