Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University men's volleyball team earned a 3-1 win over visiting Alderson Broaddus University Thursday evening afternoon at the Pitt Center.
Taylor Bloomquist led the Pioneers with 11 kills and a .625 hitting percentage. Joshua Ayzenberg recorded a match-best 12 digs, as the Pioneers finished with a 48-37 advantage in that category. The Pioneers hit .210 for the match, with 48 kills
SHU returns to the Pitt Center on Monday to host Erskine College at 7:00 pm.

First Set: SHU, 29-27
- SHU earned the first two points of the match, including a service ace from Noah Ricchetti
- After a service error put the Battlers on the board, SHU rattled off the next three points for a 5-1 advantage
- SHU led 10-6 when Ricchetti served into the net, starting a 5-0 run for ABU that put the Battlers in front 11-10 and forced a Pioneer timeout
- Francisco Cabrera served into the net out of the break to snap the run
- The teams traded points, with a 13-13 tie coming on a Taylr Bloomquist kill for the Pioneers
- Robert Costigan recorded an ace on the next serve and Bloomquist followed with a kill for a 15-13 SHU lead
- A block by Bloomquist and Rob Chatteron was followed by a Costigan kill for an 18-14 SHU advantage and a Battlers timeout
- Out of the timeout, ABSU scored six of the next eight points, knotting the score 20-20
- SHU took a 21-20 lead, and ABSU tied it with a Jose Ramirez kill
- Consecutive hitting errors by the Pioneers pushed the Battlers to a 23-21 advantage and forced SHU to call timeout
- The teams exchanged hitting errors after the timeout, tying the score 24-24

Second Set: ABU 25-23
- The Battlers jumped out to a 3-1 lead
- Blake Cox and Bloomquist joined for a block to put SHU in front 4-3 as
- Tischler recorded a solo block as part of a 3-0 Pioneer run that gave SHU an 8-5 advantage
- ABU rallied to knot the score 12-12 before a service error Myles Miller error put the Pioneers back on top, 13-12

- A triple block 3, 12, 23, gave SHU a 15-13 advantage
- A 3-0 ABU was capped by a tip kill by Cabrera to give the Battlers a 16-15 edge and force a Pioneer timeout
- SHU scored the first two points out of the break, for a 17-16 advantage
- A Ramirez kill tied the game, 17-17, as the Battlers rallied for a 19-17 edge
- SHU would rally knot the score 20-20 and the teams traded point, before ABU scored back-to-back points for a 23-21 edge

Third Set: SHU 25-16
- Trading points to open the third set, neither team built a multi-point lead until Bloomquist kill was followed by consecutive points on Bloomquist serves put SHU in front 5-3
- ABU answered quickly, with four straight points to take a 7-5 advantage, before a kill from Jakob Karlsson ended the run
- SHU went on a run, scoring six of the net seven* points, including two aces from Karlsson to build an 11-8 lead
- A service error momentarily paused the Pioneer rally, before SHU continued with four of the next five, forcing an ABU timeout with a 15-10 advantage
- SHU would maintain at least that margin the rest of the set, earning a 25-16 win
Fourth Set: SHU 25-17
- Another tightly contested opening to a set, saw ties at each point through 6-6
- Shawn Tischler gave SHU a 7-6 lead with a kill and a block by Bloomquist, Tischler and Tyler Lee made the score 8-6
- The run continued for the Pioneers to an 11-6, leading to an ABU timeout
- ABU would be no closer than six, 13-7, the remainder of the set, as SHU earned the 25-17 victory

- The Pioneers had seven service aces, three from Karlsson, while ABU had two, against 19 service errors
- Cabrera had 14 kills for the Battlers, while Timothy McIntosh led the way with 12 digs
