Box Score The Sacred Heart Men's Volleyball team hit the road to compete in the 2017 EIVA tournament, taking on the Red Flash of Saint Francis U in the semi finals. The Pioneers would drop the match 3-1, to end their season in the EIVA semi-finals. Christoper DeLucie would lead the Pioneers in kills adding 10. The Red Flash will take on the winners of the Penn State vs. Princeton game tonight.
SET 1-
- The Red Flash got off to a hot start, as they jumped to a 11-6 lead
- The Pioneers struggled midway as the Red Flash rattled off six straight points
- SHU bounced back picking up four straight points, thanks to Christopher DeLucie and a service ace.
- The Red Falshes initial lead proved to be too much for SHU as they took the first set 25-16
SET 2-
- The Pioneers bounced back in the second set, picking up the first two points, with the first coming from a Eduardo Zardo service ace
- Taylor Bloomquist added a kill to move the score to 5-3 in favor of SHU
- Each team exchanged points back and forth, as they score stood at 9-8, till Sacred Heart rattled off four straight points due to Red Flash errors
- Bloomquist was dominant, as he hit back-to-back kills to give SHU a 23-17 advantage
- Saint Francis U made a late comeback bringing the match within three, but a SHU timeout would regroup the team, as the Pioneers would take set two, 25-21
SET 3-
- The Red Flash started the third, going on a 4-0 run. A kill from DeLucie would close the SFU lead to 4-2
- Bobby Costigan would pick up a kill to close the Red Flash lead to 10-6
- Saint Francis would keep a slim lead, as they score would stand 17-12
- SFU would run away with the third set, 25-16
SET 4-
- The Pioneers backs were against the wall to start the fourth set in a must win scenario. SFU jumped to a 4-1 lead early, following a Emerson Waumans attack error
- Things picked up for SHU as Bloomquist rattled off a couple of serves to tie the match up 4-4
- The match remained close as the score stood 12-12
- Each team continued to trade points, till SFU took a two point lead late following a Stephen Braswell kill to put the Pioneers down 18-16
- The Red Flash lead would stand in the end as the Pioneers would end their season dropping the fourth set 25-20
