Box Score FAIRFIELD, CT.- The Sacred Heart Pioneers pulled away with a big win over Fort Wayne tonight to move to 3-0 on the season. The Pioneers were led by Taylor Bloomquist who hit a perfect 8-8 on the night. Michael Comens was also a main contributor for the Pioneers as he added 13 kills to bring the Pioneers ahead of the Mastodons.
The Pioneers are back at home tomorrow as they face Ball State in the Pitt Center at 7:00pm.
SET 1- In a battle between the two teams right from the get go, points were exchanged back and forth all the way to with wire. The score never broke within a two point deficit for either team. To finish off the opening set, Comens added a kill to bring the final score 26-24.
SET 2- As both teams came out firing in the second set, Sacred Heart managed to pull ahead with a 11-7 lead after back to back service aces from Christopher Delucie. After taking a four point lead the Pioneers had no thought of giving the Mastodons a chance to get back in the game. SHU's Tyler Lee ended the second set with a booming kill, coming off a Fort Wayne error to put the set away 25-22.
SET 3- The crowd played a factor in the final set, frustrating the Mastodons as they opened the game with an attack error. SHU's Delucie kept them ahead with a kill to put the score 7-6 in favor of Sacred Heart. The Mastodons weren't going home without a fight, pulling ahead to a 23-20 lead in the closing points. Sacred Heart would rally back late to finish the set, 27-25 and improve to 3-0 on the season.
