Men's Volleyball Falls to Harvard, 3-1

Fairfield, CT - Senior Jaime Crooks and junior Brady Weissbourd each had 14 kills and sophomore Erik Kuld added 11 winners as Harvard won the final three games to post a 3-1 win over Sacred Heart in EIVA action Friday night at the Pitt Center. After the Pioneers won the first game 30-26, the Crimson took the next three by scores of 30-20, 30-24 and 30-16.

Junior BJ Smith (Shelton, CT) led the Pioneers with 14 kills in the losing effort. Senior Chris Yantz (Setauket, NY) put down seven kills while sophomore Kalani Efstathiou (Beaverton, OR) had eight winners.

Sacred Heart got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 17-13 lead in the first game. Harvard trimmed the lead to 17-15 before the Pioneers won seven of the next 10 points to open up a 24-18 edge. SHU went on to a 30-26 win in the opening game. Smith had five kills while Efsthatiou added four winners to get SHU off to a good start.

Harvard came out quickly in game two, rolling to a 16-6 lead and eventually expanded that to a 21-11 edge. The Crimson were never challenged as they posted a 30-20 win. Crooks had five kills while Weissbroud put down four winners in the second game.

The fourth game was a close contest early on but the Crimson were eventually able to break out and open up a 17-11 lead. SHU cut the lead to 21-19 but the Crimson recovered to stretch the lead back to 28-22. From their Harvard hung for a 30-24 victory. Kuld had five kills in the third game for Harvard.

Once they had gained an advantage in games, Harvard was unstoppable in the fourth game as they bolted out to a 24-11 lead and cruised home to seal the match. Weissbroud led the way for the Crimson in the final game, putting down four kills.

Sacred Heart is right back in action Saturday afternoon when they host Stevens Tech at the Pitt Center. The match will begin at 1:00 pm.
