STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Pioneers are gearing up for their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships as this was the final meet before the big weekend set for Feb. 22-23. In their last meet before the championship season, the Pioneers finished out strong placing in almost all 16 events.

First-year Suzan Adekunle had a busy week. On Thursday, she competed at the historic Millrose Games in the weight throw, just missing out on the finals after throwing a personal best of 16.89m. The Providence, R.I. native then went on to the Big Apple Invite winning the event by throwing 16.89m again just two days after securing the mark for the first time. Staying with the throws Elena Chaplin grabbed second place throwing 12.62m in the shot put.

Magdalena Brogioli, Kaitlyn Caraco, and Lauryn Piccireli finished first, second, and third in the high jump, respectively. Brogioli's new personal best jump of 1.70m is tied with Piccireli for the best jump in the MAAC. The Pioneers also placed first and second in the long jump: Erin Lavelle (5.54m) claimed first, and Madeline Archengelo (5.49m) finished right behind her in second. In the pole vault, sophomore Sophia DeMillio jumped 3.55m, which was good enough for second.

Grace Sousa's finish time in the mile of 5:03.17 is a new personal best for the senior and claimed fourth place. Junior Emily Raymond also claimed a new personal best in the 800m finishing in fourth with a time of 2:21.60. In the 400m personal bests did not stop as Julia MacLaine ran 1:00.45 narrowly missing the 1-minute barrier.
