Notable Day for Sanders at Big Apple Invite

Pioneers wrap up regular season

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Pioneers are gearing up for their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships as this was the final meet before the big weekend set for Feb. 22-23. Joshua Sanders is ready for the big meet as the sophomore placed in three events to finish his regular season.

Sanders finished seventh in the high jump with a leap of 1.80m, fifth in long jump after jumping 6.42m, and the highlight of his day was a personal best and second-place finish in the 60m hurdles finals clocking in at 8.52. He was not alone in the 60m hurdles finals as fellow sophomore Damon Wilson finished right behind him in third with a time of 8.74. Holden Crabbs was also in the finals after setting a new personal record of 9.40 in the prelims.

Senior Aidan Glennon secured a second-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 15.05m. An underclassmen trio of Anthony DePasquale (13.64m), Kristopher Chambers (13.14m), and Tyler Durang (13.09m) were close behind in fifth, sixth, and seventh respectively. On the track, Michael Mason ran the mile in 4:20.22 getting him second place and a new personal best. While senior Lance Hayes grabbed the win in the 800m clocking in at 1:55.81.

The Pioneers are back in action on Feb. 22-23 at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Armory Track and Field Center in New York, NY.
