LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Sacred Heart men's track & field team scored 18 points on the opening day of the MAAC Outdoor Championships at Rider. SHU sits in eighth place. A majority of the finals are set for Sunday.
Mason Marino had the top performance of the day, finishing third in the javelin with a toss of 54.91 meters. The Pioneers had two other scorers in the event –
Devin DiMartino (49.24m) was seventh and
Hunter Bishop (48.95m) placed eighth.
Sacred Heart also had three scorers in the hammer throw -
Joshua Wood (5th, 53.55 meters),
Kristopher Chambers (7th, 51.97 meters) and
Tyler Durang (8th, 48.71 meters).
Several Pioneers qualified for Sunday finals, including three in the 400 dash -
Rafael Mahario (48.51, 2nd fastest time),
Lance Hayes (48.70, 3rd) and
Connor Meikle (49.34, 6th).
Damon Wilson will race in the 110 hurdles final after posting a time of 14.99, and
Colin Brown qualified in the 100 dash with the third fastest time (10.37).
Alexander Rotondi (54.78, 5th) qualified in 400 hurdles.
The competition gets started at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
