NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Lauryn Piccirelli's event win in the high jump highlighted a successful day for the Sacred Heart University women's track & field team as it wrapped up the first weekend of the 2024-25 indoor season at the Yale season opener on Saturday.
Piccirelli who cleared 1.63 meters in her first attempt, grabbed one of SHU's eight top five outings in the field during Saturday's meet. Following her was sophomore
Susan Porto who grabbed a personal best clearance of 1.53m to take fifth place in the event. Elsewhere in jumps,
Erin Lavelle continued where she left off last season with a good outing in the long jump, taking fifth with a mark of 5.42m. In the pole vault,
Sophia DeMillio and
Sydney Abitanto claimed second and fifth, respectively, with DeMillio clearing 3.30m in her first attempt.
Continuing in the field,
Ava Srinivasan nabbed a personal best in the triple jump, setting a mark of 11.03m in her second attempt. In throws, first year Elena Chaplin placed well in her collegiate debut, setting a mark of 12.58m on her fifth attempt in shot put while in the weight throw, fellow first year Suzan Adekunle earning second with a mark of 15.33m.
On the track,
Emily Raymond had a stellar outing in the 800m, taking first place with a time of 2:24.63 as her,
Madison Breckner – who nabbed a personal best in the event – and
Mollie Story placed in the top five in the event for SHU. Continuing in the mid-distance, SHU placed four members in the top five in the 1000m run with
Megan Schneider,
Mia Breauninger,
Olivia Schwark and
Bridget Gulfo finishing second through fifth. In distance,
Grace Sousa and
Grace DelGiorno grabbed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 3000m.
The Pios finished the afternoon's events with strong outings in the 60m and 60m hurdles. First year Nyahingava Musa took third in the 60m dash while
Annalise Nassy took fifth with a personal best of 8.01 seconds.
Madeline Archangelo wrapped up SHU's 18 top five placements with a personal best in the 60m hurdles, taking third with a time of 8.94 seconds. Full results can be found at
