STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Magdalena Brogioli's school record in the 60m hurdles headlined a monumental day for the Sacred Heart University women's track & field squad as it wrapped up competition at the Wagner College Seahawk Shootout on Friday.
Brogioli, who broke her own record from a season ago, etched herself in the record book with a time of 8.70 seconds in the event, which was good for third overall. In one of the larger events of the meet,
Madeline Archangelo and first year Sierra Thompson grabbed 11
th and 12
th out of 48 competitors in the hurdles. Brogioli followed up her podium placement with a top 10 finish in the 60m dash, claiming seventh.
In the mid-distance and distance portions of the meet,
Grace Sousa grabbed the event win in the mile, finishing ahead of the pack with a time of 5:09.31 as part of four Pios who placed in scoring position.
Grace DelGiorno took third with a time of 5:16.86 while
Anna King and
Kelly Parker finished in sixth and seventh by a difference of one second, respectively.
Continuing on the historic outing,
Emily Raymond grabbed a ninth-place finish in the 600m run with a possible-record time of 1:40.43. continuing in distance,
Carissa Weber grabbed the lone top 10 finish with a seventh place outing in the 1000m run, securing a time of 3:10.08.
Rounding out the events on the track, the 4x200 meter relay grabbed another school record time as the quartet of
Annalise Nassy, Brogioli, Archaneglo and Thompson nabbed a time of 1:42.35 to secure fourth place. In the 4x400m relay, four SHU squads placed in the top 10 with Sofia Caito, Eva Olszewski, Oona Murphy and
Mia Breauninger taking the top team spot for SHU with a fourth place finish and time of 4:07.91.
A showcase of first year talent was on display in the field as rookie's Elena Chaplin and Caroline Herlihy placed in scoring position in shot put, claiming fourth and eight, respectively. Chaplin claimed her fourth place finish with a mark of 11.85m on her second attempt while Herlihy claimed a mark of 11.62m on her final attempt.
In jumps, first year's continued running the show with Julia Tozduman claiming a team-high fourth place finish in the long jump, setting a mark of 5.66. in the triple jump, first year Kaitlyn Caraco took fifth after earning a mark of 11.60m on her second attempt.
Building off of last year's indoor performance,
Lauryn Piccirelli placed second in the high jump with a tiebreaking clearance of 1.63m while Brogioli claimed fourth with a replica height. In the pole vault, Sophia Demillio claimed the best spot for SHU with a clearance at 2.70m and a tiebreak at the 3.30m height to wrap up the competition for SHU. Full meet results can be found here:
