HONOLULU, HI—The Sacred Heart baseball team dropped game two of the four game series against Hawaii, 4-1 on Friday night. The Pioneers (5-8) were held to just one run on three hits by the Rainbow Warriors (8-5) starter Brendan Hornung as the right hander threw a complete game at Les Murakami Stadium.

After two quick outs in the bottom of the second, Sacred Heart fired off back-to-back singles by juniors PJ DeFilippo and Anthony Capozziello. Senior Jake Friar added the third straight hit with his single to left field, scoring DeFilippo from second base to take the 1-0 lead. Hawaii evened up the game on an RBI groundout by Logan Pouelsen. The Rainbow Warriors added the go-ahead run on RBI double by Dustin Demeter in the bottom of the third. A single by Josh Rojas in the bottom half of the fifth inning pushed the lead to 3-1. Johnathan Weeks scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth to bring the final score to 4-1. 

Hornung settled in on his home hill after the Pioneers scored in the bottom of the second, he retired 22 straight batters for the complete game victory. He had a streak of seven straight strikeouts over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and finished the night with 14 strikeouts. Sophomore Brent Teller took the loss for SHU, pitching five innings and allowing three runs on three hits. Freshman Kevin Czapelski pitched three innings in relief, allowing just one run on one hit. 

The Pioneers return to action for the third game of the four-game series against the Rainbow Warriors.
