Five Pioneers Named to DI Baseball CSC Academic All-District Team

Costello, D’Amore, Kovalchik, McGuire and Trombley were honored

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Five members of the Sacred Heart University baseball team were named to the Division I Baseball College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday afternoon. Charlie Costello, Dante D'Amore, Zack Kovalchik, Tim McGuire and Joey Trombley were recognized.
 
Costello, a senior right-handed pitcher made 20 appearances this season, maintaining a 5.47 ERA through 26.1 innings pitched, with 14 strikeouts. The Hopewell Junction, N.Y., native is pursuing his master's degree in accounting with a 3.77 GPA.
 
First baseman and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Conference Second Team honoree Dante D'Amore started in 52 games this season, hitting .293. The senior reached 200 career hits this season with 60, with 15 doubles, six home runs and 43 RBIs. The Southington, Conn., native graduated with a finance degree with a 3.67 GPA.
 
Kovalchik played in 51 games with 49 starts in center fielder, averaging .253 at the plate. The senior secured 37 hits with 10 doubles, two triples, four home runs and 27 RBIs. The Archbald, Pa., native secured a biology degree while maintaining a 3.98 GPA.
 
McGuire, a senior infielder, appeared in 49 games, starting 44 of them while hitting .296. The Portsmouth, R.I. native, secured 48 hits, eight doubles, a triple, a home run and 34 RBIs. McGuire maintained a 3.74 GPA while securing his bachelor of science in accounting.
 
Finally, right-handed pitcher Trombley made 15 starts on the mound for the Pioneers, tossing 84.2 innings. The sophomore struck out 52 batters, walked 34 and allowed 46 earned runs. Academically, the Watervliet, N.Y., native has maintained a 3.8 GPA while studying management.
