Baseball Set for Weekend Series at Siena

Game times have been moved due to impending weather

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University baseball team continues Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play on the road at Siena for a weekend series at Connors Park. This will be the first meeting of the two teams in conference history
 
The series opener is set for Friday at noon with game two to start approximately 30 minutes after. Game three is to be determined either on Saturday or Sunday. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Pioneers secured their fifth consecutive series victory last weekend, taking two of three games against Manhattan. After winning the first two games to take the series, Manhattan came back to win the third, 11-8.
 
Sophomore Gavin Donohue led the Pios at the plate, hitting .471 across the three games with eight hits, three doubles, a triple, two home runs and seven RBIs. 
 
Elijah Foster threw six innings in game two of the series allowing only three hits, one unearned run, two walks and secured a season high of seven strikeouts.
 
The Pios dropped a midweek matchup to Bryant on Tuesday 10-4. G. Donohue and Alex Ungar each secured two hits for the SHU. Bryan Matuschat went a career high of three innings allowing no runs and just one hit and one walk.
 
SCOUTING SIENA
Siena is currently looking for their first MAAC series win with a 4-17 overall record and 2-4 MAAC record. The Saints took game one from Manhattan 12-7 and game one from Fairfield in eleven innings 4-2 but were unable to finish the job.
 
The Saints are coming off back-to-back midweek games as they lost LIU Tuesday 14-5 and beat FDU 13-1 in seven innings on Wednesday.
 
Jake Sparks leads the Saints offensively batting .301 with 25 hits, seven doubles and four home runs. The sophomore infielder has 13 RBIs and has a slugging percentage of .530.
On the mound for the Saints, Alistar Morin leads with a 2.54 ERA with 281 innings pitches. The redshirt-junior right handed pitcher is 1-3 on the year leading the Siena with 33 strikeouts.

The Pioneers will head to Central Connecticut State University on Tuesday, April 1, at 3 p.m.
