Weekend Series with Assumption on Tap for Women’s Hockey

Teams meet at Martire Family Arena on Friday, in Worcester on Saturday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Sacred Heart women's hockey team begins the final month of the regular season with another important NEWHA weekend series. The Pioneers host Assumption on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Martire Family Arena. The two teams then meet in Worcester on Saturday, also a 7 p.m. start. 
 
SHU (13-10-3, 12-5-3 NEWHA) enters the weekend in a first-place tie with LIU. Both teams have 39 points, five more than Frankin Pierce and Stonehill, who are tied for third place. 
 
OF NOTE 
 
• Sacred Heart is coming off a split of last weekend's series with LIU. Each team won on the other's ice. Carly Greene made 20 saves, including several in the final minutes of the third period, and Kailey Smith scored the games' only goal in the Pioneers' 1-0 victory on Saturday. The Sharks skated to a 3-0 win on Sunday at Martire Family Arena. 
 
Isabella Chaput leads the Red & White in goals (10) and points (15) heading into the weekend, having scored in two of her last four conference games. 
 
• Smith, Kate Helgeson, Alyssa Antonakis, Savannah Popick, Sami Bowlby and Bria Holm top the team in assists, with Popick and Bowlby recording their sixths of the season during Saturday's 
matchup against LIU. 
 
• Smith and Olivia LaRoche played in their 100th games this past Sunday. Smith netted the game-winning-goal on Saturday in Sacred Heart's 1-0 victory. 
 
• Smith, LaRoche, Greene and Addie Bowlby were all named to the NEWHA Honor Roll on Tuesday. 
 
• The Pioneers are unbeaten in regulation in their last three road games.   
 
• Sacred Heart and Assumption have split six all-time meetings, with Sacred Heart taking the last two matchups earlier this season. 
 
ON ASSUMPTION 
 
• The Greyhounds (6-17-3, 6-12-2 NEWHA) come into the weekend seventh in the NEWHA. Last weekend, Assumption hit the road, facing off against Post and dropped both games. 
 
• Assumption is 0-6-1 in its last seven games. 
 
• Jenna Chaplain, Heather Ajakie and Rachel Agerter lead the Greyhounds this season with nine points. The sophomore duo of Chaplain and Agerter lead the team in goals (6) and assists (7) respectively. 
 
• In goal, Jadyn Weiser and Carissa Mudrak have split the starts at 13 apiece. 
 
• Joe Grossman is in his first season as the Assumption head coach.
