MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – The Sacred Heart University softball team suffered losses to both Troy and Columbia on Saturday evening at the Spring Games. The Pios fell 11-0 to Troy and 11-1 to Columbia.

The Trojans got the jump on the Pioneers in the first inning, scoring five runs in the home half of the frame. All five runs came off two home runs.
Troy continued to widen its advantage with two runs in the third and four runs in the fourth to go ahead 11-0 through four.
The Pioneers tallied two hits in the opener: an
Emily Carroll single in the first and a
Jenna Mowad double in the third. Unfortunately, SHU could not hang any runs on the scoreboard as they suffered an 11-0 loss in five.

Columbia took the early lead in the nightcap, plating three in the first.
Sacred Heart was ready with an answer, as
Victoria LoPinto blasted a solo shot in the second to cut the deficit to 3-1. LoPinto joins
Cierra Bender as the two Pioneers with two home runs so far this season.
Unfortunately for the Pios, the Lions added eight runs over the next three innings to secure the 11-1 victory in five innings.
