Of Note:
The Pioneers came out of the gate by taking the game's first lead, putting one run on the scoreboard with some timely two-out hitting in the top of the first inning. Amy Petrovich, Alyssa Gonzalez, and Nicole Henke tallied back-to-back-to-back hits, as Henke gave SHU a 1-0 advantage with an RBI double.

Sacred Heart scored again in the top of the third on an RBI single from Gonzalez. With two on and no outs, the senior from Beaumont, Calif., sent a single to right field to easily plate Sam Kowalski from second base.

Unfortunately for the Pios, the Stags answered by scoring three in the bottom of the third to build a 3-2 lead.

After Fairfield added another run in the bottom of the fifth, SHU retaliated by tying the game at 4-4 in the next half inning. Following a leadoff walk from Henke, Emily Carroll blasted a pitch over the left-field fence for her fifth home run as a junior.

However, the Stags were up for the challenge, scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth to ensure a 6-4 victory.

In the circle, Kowalski tossed all but the final two outs for SHU, finishing the afternoon with five earned runs and four strikeouts. Emily Heath entered in relief of Kowalski and threw the last 0.2 innings for the Pios, striking out one.
