LAST TIME OUT
The Pioneers suffered an NEC sweep at the hands of FDU with three hard-fought setbacks over the weekend. In the first game on Friday, SHU outhit the Knights 7-3 but was felled by a pair of multi-run homers by the visitors. In Sunday's doubleheader, the Pios were tied or ahead going into the seventh inning of both games, but late rallies by the Knights lifted them to victory. The duo of
Carly Koltko and
Nicole Henke led the way for SHU offensively, as Koltko owned a .571 batting average, and Henke hit at a .500 clip. Koltko tallied four hits with an RBI and a double in her two appearances, while Henke racked up two runs, three RBI, one home run, and one double.
TWICE AS NICE
For the second time this season, Henke garnered NEC Rookie of the Week status, as she was named the Co-Rookie of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. The Carlstadt, N.J., native tallied a .417/.533/.750 slash line over her four appearances this past week with two runs, a team-leading three RBI, and her fourth home run of the season. She finished the week with a hit in three of her four games, including two multi-hit outings. As of Tuesday, the Pios have received four weekly awards from the NEC this season, as Henke is a two-time rookie of the week,
Sam Kowalski also owns a ROW nod, and
Alyssa Gonzalez has been crowned a player of the week by the league office.
SCOUTING SIENA
The Saints head into Wednesday's twin bill with a 12-8 overall record through 20 games this year. Wednesday's doubleheader will be Siena's final two road games before kicking off its home slate on Saturday against Saint Peter's. After starting the season with a six-game win streak, the Saints have gone 6-8 since then, dropping both ends of a doubleheader against UAlbany in its most recent action. Leading the way for Siena's offense have been McKenzie Swinson and Ava Fitzmaurice, as Swinson owns a .350 batting average, and Fitzmaurice is hitting at a .348 clip. Swinson paces the team with 11 stolen bases, while ranking second in doubles (4) and third in runs (10). Fitzmaurice leads the Saints in runs (12), doubles (5), triples (1), and home runs (2). Fitzmaurice also commands Siena's pitching staff as she paces the team with a 2.33 ERA, 27 strikeouts, and four victories. Alissa Eimont has also done very well this season, owning a 2.58 ERA with 26 strikeouts and two wins.
