Of Note:
The Pioneers opened the game with a bang, as Jenna Mowad smashed a leadoff homer to left field to give SHU a 1-0 lead. The junior tallied her second home run of the season and the fourth of her career.

After the Gaels tied the score in the bottom of the first, the starting pitchers kept the game knotted at 1-1 until the top of the fifth. The fifth inning proved pivotal for the Pioneers, as they scored three runs on three hits to take a 4-1 lead.

A walk and a single to start the frame put two on for Emily Carroll, who singled up the middle to plate Mowad from second. With the single, Carroll extended her hit streak to nine games. In the next at-bat, Alyssa Gonzalez doubled SHU's lead with a two-run homer to right field. The senior has hit a team-leading seven home runs this season and has 44 in her illustrious career.

Carroll added to the Pioneers' advantage in the top of the seventh with a sacrifice fly to center field to make it a 5-1 game.

Five runs were more than enough insurance for Sacred Heart's starting pitcher Emily Heath, who collected her second win of the season by going 7.0 innings and allowing just one earned run. The first year hurler fanned five hits over the seven innings and struck out a season-high nine batters.
