A Charli Warren triple in the top of the second put Fairfield up 3-0 before the Pioneers answered in the bottom of the frame. After a walk and a single put two on for SHU,
Victoria LoPinto brought the home team's first run in with a single through the right side.
Jenna Mowad followed in the next at-bat and drove
Myah Eldred home from third with an RBI single of her own. The Pios tallied their final run of the frame on an error by the Stags' centerfielder to knot the game at 3-3.
Unfortunately for the Pioneers, Fairfield's pitchers held SHU scoreless for the remainder of the contest. The Stags, on the other hand, scored one run in the fifth and sixth innings to secure a 5-3 road win.
