PHILADELPHIA, PA. — Sacred Heart University fencing will be back in action this Sunday at the UPenn Invitational, their first meet since hosting their own invitational back on Dec. 4.

The Pioneers will be one of 12 teams at the UPenn Invitational with the likes of Duke, University of North Carolina, Cornell, Lafayette and Wagner College. The red and white will see some familiar competition with Johns Hopkins, New Jersey Institute of Technology and New York University where the men's team will look to avenge losses from earlier meets.

The women will also see some teams they've seen before, as they beat Wagner earlier this year at the Vassar Meet and look to get the better of NYU and NJIT at this weekend's invitational.

Men's fencing has gone 8-12 overall this season with women's fencing right alongside at 9-13. Men's sabre has been impressive this year, with Connor Loth and Domenic Bartolo leading the way with 29-21 records. David Belluomo has been solid for men's foil all year with a 31-25 record. Connor Kravit is the only member of the men's team to post a 60% win percentage in at least 45 bouts, winning 27 of those for men's epee. Natalie Mataiev and Sophie Witek have a combined record of 64-29 to lead the women's sabre squad with first year Nadia Gaberkorn posting a 67% winning percentage, winning 38 of 57 bouts to date.
