Softball Falls to Fairfield 8-5

Alyssa Gonzalez fired her 12th homer of the season

FAIRFIELD, Conn.- A four-run seven inning by Fairfield led to an 8-5 loss for the Sacred Heart University softball team on Tuesday.

Of Note:
  • The Pioneers took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning as Alyssa Gonzalez launched her 12th home run of the year to center field scoring in Grace Saad and Kylee Harvey.
  • In the bottom of the second inning, the Pioneers took a 4-0 lead off a sacrifice fly by Harvey scoring in Morgan Teodosio from third.
  • Fairfield answered in the top of the third with an RBI single through the left side scoring in two runs to narrow the SHU lead to 4-2.
  • SHU responded in the bottom half of the inning as Amy Petrovich ripped an RBI triple to right center scoring in Grace Saad to put the Pioneers ahead 5-2.
  • Fairfield then scored two runs one in the fifth and one in the sixth inning off a sacrifice fly and RBI single to right field to tighten the Pioneer lead to 5-4.
  • In the top of the seventh inning, the Stags tacked on four runs off an two RBI single to center field followed by an two RBI double to result in the 8-5 loss.
