BROOKLYN, NY – Clutch play down the stretch helped the Sacred Heart University men's volleyball team prevail over LIU on Friday. The Pioneers defeated the Sharks, 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23).

After splitting the first two sets, LIU pulled even, 18-18, in set three. An
Ife Loverton blocked helped SHU regain the lead. The senior middle blocker came through with a kill to make it 24-22 then an LIU error ended the set.

The Sharks went on a 7-0 run in set four to take the lead from the Pioneers. SHU was down 23-21, but rallied to tie it at 23-23 on a
Dylan McClung kill.
Patrick Mucherino came through with an ace then a kill to secure the victory.

Mucherino produced a match-high 18 kills to go along with seven digs and two blocks. Setter
Tyler Kwinta recorded the first double-double of his career with 24 assists and a career-high 11 digs.Â

Carlos Terrassa had a career-high 12 digs. McClung just missed his season-best with 14 kills.
