WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Sacred Heart University women's tennis team is headed to the semifinals of the Northeast Conference Tournament after outlasting number six Mount St. Mary's, 4-3, on Thursday morning. The Pioneers also notched their 12
th win of the season which is the highest in program history.
After dropping the doubles point,
Katsiaryna Starastsenka,
Ciara O'Toole and
Olivia Kharkover won in straight sets in first, second and sixth singles. Kharkover's win marked her seventh-straight in the sixth spot.
The match came down to junior
Vitalina Golod in third singles. Golod topped her opponent 6-1 in the first, before a 4-6 setback in the second. In a tight third set, Golod clinched the victory, 7-5.
The record-breaking win is the most since SHU's 11-8 season in 2011.
The Pioneers will play number two Fairleigh Dickinson tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the semifinals.
