ORLANDO, Fla. – The Sacred Heart University women's tennis team rounded out its three-day tournament in the Sunshine State with a 5-1 loss to SIUE on Thursday night. SHU is now 7-10 overall.
First-year
Aina Garriga picked up the lone point of the day at fourth singles when her opponent retired midway through the second set at two-all. Garriga won the first set, 7-5.
Katsiaryna Starastsenka and
Flavia Rambaldi split sets with their opponents but fell in the super tiebreaker. First-year Ana Sofia Angeles Sanchez took the first set in sixth singles, 7-5, and was winning, 2-1, in the second set before the match was deemed unfinished.
In doubles action, the tandems of
Vitalina Golod and
Kim Fenton, as well as Rambaldi and Garriga, brought the score to 7-6 but ultimately fell in the tiebreaker. Golod and Fenton fell narrowly, 7-5, while Garriga and Rambaldi were unable to pick up a point in the tiebreaker, 7-0.
The Pioneers return to New England and will play at Providence on Thursday at 1 p.m.
