Pioneers Defeat Post in NEWHA Quarterfinals, 5-2

SHU travels to Franklin Pierce on Friday for the Semifinals

SHELTON, Conn. — Back-to-back strikes from Paige McNeil and Alexa Ocel in the second period handed the Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team a 5-2 victory over Post in the NEWHA Quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Up Next:
The Pioneers will take on the top-seeded Franklin Pierce on Friday at 3 p.m. The Ravens will host the tournament for the final two rounds at Jason Ritchie '05 Ice Arena.

Of Note:

McNeil racked up two goals and two assists, while Ocel had a hand in three with a goal and two assists.

Sacred Heart found the back of the net first as Katie Keenan struck just 10:36 into the first period before the Eagles cashed in on a powerplay goal two and a half minutes into the second to even the score.

McNeil and Ocel's pair of goals were answered by a late goal from Post, bringing the visitors to within one goal at the second intermission, 3-2.

Cannady Taleghani added an insurance goal near the midpoint of the final period, scoring the Red & White's fourth goal of the game at 10:03. 

The game was put out of reach by a fifth and final goal with the Post net empty as McNeil tucked home her second goal of the game on the play.

Frankie Sanchez conceded two goals on 20 shots, ending the night with 18 saves to earn the postseason triumph.
