Box Score TRUMBULL, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's tennis team was triumphant in its home opener on Sunday evening with a 5-2 victory over Hofstra.
The Pioneers grabbed wins in five of the six singles matchups as four came in straight sets. First-year
Olivia Kharkover was forced into a tiebreaker in the first set at fifth singles. Kharkover defeated her opponent in the tiebreaker and went on to win the second set, 6-3. In the sixth spot,
Flavia Rambaldi won the first set, 6-3, before falling in the second set tiebreaker. The sophomore prevailed with a convincing 10-1 third set to seal the victory.
Hofstra took the point from doubles play winning two of the three doubles matches. The duo of
Ciara O'Toole and
Aina Garriga defeated Hofstra's Katherin Kachkarov and April Sanchez at second doubles, 6-3, for SHU's lone doubles victory of the day.
Katsiaryna Starastsenka and
Vitalina Golod played a tight matchup at first singles but fell narrowly, 7-5.
