Box Score TRUMBULL, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's tennis team notched a solid team win over Stony Brook at home on Friday, 4-3. The win is the first the Pioneers have ever took over the Seawolves. SHU is now 1-13 over Stony Brook as the series dates back to 2001.
The Pioneers move to 6-7 on the year while the Seawolves drop their third straight match and are now 1-5.
Vitalina Golod and
Renee Sharma grabbed a convincing 6-2 victory at third doubles to kick off the day.
Katsiaryna Starastsenka and
Ciara O'Toole pulled out the tiebreaker to help take first doubles, 7-6, to help bring the doubles point over to the Pioneers.
Starastsenka kept it rolling when she brought the team score to 2-0 with a straight-set win at number one singles. After dropping second, third, and fourth singles to give the Seawolves the lead, sophomore
Kim Fenton evened the score when she won the super tiebreak at six singles.
Flavia Rambaldi clinched the match with a 10-7 super tiebreak win at fifth singles.
SHU is back in action tomorrow when they host Northeast Conference foe Wagner at 6 p.m.
