SHELTON, Conn. — Three Pioneers hit the net and
Carly Greene turned aside 20 shots in a big home conference win today. The Sacred Heart Women's Hockey Team knocked off Franklin Pierce today at home at The Rinks, 3-1.
After a scoreless first, Franklin Pierce got on the scoreboard 2:48 into the second period. Sacred Heart got the equalizer with Olivia LaRoche's first career goal at the 7:04 mark on an assist from
Paige McNeil to take a 1-1 tie into the third period.
Nicole Guidi put the Pioneers up 2-1 with her third goal of the year 5:32 into the third period with help from Rachel DeLong and
Sophie Lupone. That turned out to be the game winner, the fourth of her career. SHU sealed the victory with a Delani Mackay empty-netter with 30 seconds to play.
Greene, who made her eighth start between the posts for the Pioneers, stopped 20 of 21 shots.
Sacred Heart goes to 5-8-1 overall on the year and 5-4-1 in NEWHA conference play. The Pioneers will be back in Shelton tomorrow where they'll have a rematch with Franklin Pierce at 2:30 p.m.
