Sacred Heart Falls 56-35 at Brown

Pryor records first career double-double

PROVIDENCE, R.I.— The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team played its first road game of the season on Wednesday but fell to Brown, 56-35.

Records:
Sacred Heart: 1-3
Brown: 2-2

Top Performers:
Ny'Ceara Pryor: 12 points, 13 rebounds

Of Note:
After being down 31-20 in the first half, graduate student Sajada Bonner got the momentum going for Sacred Heart with a layup at the 8:03 mark of the third quarter.  From there, the Pioneers went on a 5-2 run to cut the deficit within eight.

With under two minutes left, first year Amelia Wood and sophomore Afia Owusu-Mensah traded baskets to make it 38-31 at the end of the third quarter. That was as close as Sacred Heart could get as Brown went on to outscore the Pioneers 18-4 in the fourth quarter.

SHU struggled to find its shot as it was held to just 12-of-61 from the field and 1-of-15 from three-point range compared to Brown, which was 21-of-63 overall and 6-of-23 from behind the arc. The Bears outscored the Pioneers 30-18 in the paint and posted 23 points off turnovers.

The Red, however, did edge Brown in rebounding, 51-46.

Pryor posted the first double-double of her career with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
