Box Score WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University women's tennis team bounced back for its first win of the New Year with a 6-1 triumph over Binghamton on Friday night. The match took place at a neutral site hosted by Army West Point.
The non-conference victory moves the Pioneers to 3-3 overall while the Bearcats drop to 0-3 on the year.
All three doubles partners grabbed victories to kick off the match. The duo of
Flavia Rambaldi and
Vitalina Golod started things off with a convincing 6-1 doubles win at number two. Number one doubles pair
Katsiaryna Starastsenka finished with a victory shortly after, 6-4, followed by
Kim Fenton and Ana Sofia Angeles Sanchez who won, 6-3, at number three.
Five of the six singles matches were claimed by the Red & White in straight sets. After defeating her opponent, 6-1, in the first set, Binghamton's Abby Ackroyd forced a close second set. With the second set tied at five-all, Rambaldi held on to outlast Ackroyd, 7-5.
Sacred Heart was originally scheduled to play Army West Point on Saturday, but do to the impending inclement weather, it has been postponed. The Pioneers are back in action on Sunday when they travel back to West Point to take on Seton Hall.
