Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn. — After the scoreboard received no love in regulation and overtime, the Sacred Heart University field hockey team put an end to Rider's undefeated season with a 1-0 victory in a shootout on Wednesday.
The Red and White improved to 3-4 overall and 3-3 in the Northeast Conference, while Rider fell to 5-1 in their conference-only season.
The Broncos couldn't capitalize between the posts as goalkeeper Hailey Power saved all 17 shots on goal for her third shutout of the season.
In the first round of the shootout, the Pioneers were awarded a penalty stroke when Kayla Kruk was fouled. Hannah Fawle took advantage of the opportunity and found the back of the net for the lone score. Power stifled all five of Rider's attempts in the one-on-one to secure the win.
