BETHPAGE, N.Y. — In the final game of the regular season, the Sacred Heart University women's tennis team narrowly loss 4-3 to undefeated Northeast Conference rival LIU on Sunday.
The Pioneers got the first point of the day, winning in the number one and three doubles spots to take the doubles point. Duo Ciara O'Toole and Katsiaryna Starastsenka tallied the first point with a 6-1 victory, followed by partners Flavia Rambaldi and Lauren Starastsenka breaking the 1-1 tie with a 7-6 decision.
In singles, the two teams battled it out, and it came down to the bottom of the lineup. SHU would win at number three and four, retaking the lead, 3-2, but the Sharks' tallied the final two points for the win.
The Red and White compete in the NEC Championships in West Windsor, NJ on April 16-18.
