QUEENS, NY — The Sacred Heart University baseball program opened its four-game series against St. John's with an 8-2 loss on Friday.

Of Note:

Senior right-hand pitcher Cooper Thompson held off the scoring for three of his four innings, with five strikeouts and only one walk.

In the ninth inning, Michael Hernandez drew a leadoff walk and moved up to third on a Mark Smith double. Robert Farruggio singled to right center to score both runners and avoid the shutout.

Left-handed mecomer Jack Bebbington relieved Michal Boyian in the sixth inning and threw 2.2 scoreless innings, only allowing one hit.

Justin Jordan, Austin Markmann and Isiah Daubon each had two apiece. The team missed opportunities with nine runners left on base.
