CUMBERLAND, R.I. — The Sacred Heart University women's tennis program dropped its first Northeast Conference matchup at Bryant, 5-2, on Sunday. The Pioneers fell 4-4 on the season and 3-1 in the league, while Bryant improved 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the NEC.
For their fourth straight win, number one partners Ciara O'Toole and Katsiaryna Starastsenka secured the first doubles win with a 6-3 triumph over Bryant's Ada Boru and Leanne Kendall. The Bulldogs tallied the remaining two matchups to earn the doubles point.
In singles, the Red and White led off with two wins from O'Toole and Flavia Rambaldi. O'Toole was first off the court with her tiebreaking 7-6 victory and 6-2 win at number one. At No. 4 singles, Rambaldi bested the Kendall in a tough three-set match, falling 2-6 in the first set followed by 7-6 tiebreaking decision and 6-2 in the final to tally the point.
The team hits the court again against Quinnipiac on April 1 at 3 p.m.
