Box Score 2 FAIRFIELD, Conn.- Victories came at home for the Sacred Heart University softball team as they opened up Northeast Conference play with a pair of victories over LIU 2-1 and 7-5.

Of Note
- It was a pitcher's duel in game one as neither team was able to put up runs on the board until the fourth inning.
- Senior Colleen Walsh pitched seven flawless innings allowing just one run on six hits with six strikeouts.
- The Pioneers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth off an RBI single by junior Alyssa Gonzalez scoring in Kylee Harvey.
- LIU came back in the sixth with a solo home run to right field off the bat of Paige Griffin to even the score at 1-1.
- Then with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, junior Amy Petrovich rocketed her first home run of the year to right field to give the Pioneers the 2-1 victory.

Of Note
- LIU jumped out on the board first taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning off a sac fly and single.
- The Pioneers narrowed the Sharks lead to 2-1 off a wild pitch that would score in senior Kira Ferraiolo from third.
- After LIU took the lead in the top of the fifth 5-2, the Pioneers kicked off the bottom of the inning with a bases-loaded walk to tighten the LIU lead to 5-3.
- Then a pinch-hit single to left field by Nautika Diaz would score in one run to narrow the LIU lead to 5-4.
- The senior Kylee Harvey came up to the dish and ripped a bases-clearing double to left-center to give the Pioneers the 7-5 lead.
- First-year Jenna Pfister would come in relief and close out the game for her second career save.
- Sophomore Carlie Williams picked up her first career win as a Pioneer dealing three strikeouts in two innings pitched.
