Box Score 2 FAIRFIELD, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University softball team returned to Pioneer Park on Sunday afternoon splitting a two-game series with Maine falling in the first 8-2 and winning in game two 10-5.

Of Note
- After two innings, the Pioneers were able to take a 2-1 lead courtesy of an RBI single by junior Alyssa Gonzalez in the first inning and a sac fly by Marie Funes in the second.
- The rest of the scoring would come from Maine as they tallied three homers in two innings including two in the third to take a 5-2 lead.
- An RBI triple and double would lead to the 8-2 victory for Maine.
- The Pioneers were held to just one hit in the game while Maine tallied 15.

Of Note
- The second game would be a complete 180 from game one as the Pioneers fired 13 hits in the game while holding Maine to just seven.
- Starting pitcher Olivia Vadas had an impressive outing going 5.2 innings with allowing four hits and struck out four.
- The Pioneers jumped out early with a homer to center field by Caroline Kruger for her first of the season to put SHU ahead 1-0.
- The scoring kept coming as in the fourth inning, the Pioneers went back-to-back with home-runs by Maighread Scafariello and Kira Ferraiolo to put SHU ahead 4-0.
- The big scoring came off the bat of Alyssa Gonzalez as she launched a deep home-run to center field in the bottom of the sixth inning for her fourth of the season to take a 10-5 lead.
- Caroline Kruger put in an impressive game two going 3-4 at the plate with two RBI's.
